Olive Cafe (Wellington CBD)

Last Tuesday (3rd march) I went up and down Cuba street, deciding on which cafe to use in my brochure that would complement my idea well. I tried out Plum Cafe, then Fidel's. After walking in and out of these two popular hang outs (and spending way too much money on food) I decided it wasn't what I was looking for. I then discovered Olive Cafe and had heard about their courtyard out the back.

Olive Cafe was perfect. It has plants everywhere you look, making you feel like your drinking your coffee in the centre of nature. It has a comfortable feel to it, and I loved it. So I then documented my experience there.

Olive Cafe:

Quality:

  • Quality of the place overall was spectacular. The Cafe itself was very clean, and kept to a high standard.
  • The coffee I ordered (cappuccino) was amazing, it was presented well.

Price:

  • The price was average for around Wellington Central ($4) for a regular size coffee, Although I was expecting it to be more expensive because of it being on the famous Cuba Street and in being very central.
Service:
  • I was impressed with the service coming into the Cafe, although as soon as I sat down and only ordered a coffee I was treated not as nicely as when coming in. I feel as though this was because they didn't want to waste their time on me and a table on me when I was only ordering a coffee for myself.
Popularity:
  • There were very few people there. This was prime time that I entered the Cafe (mid day). Although this could be because of it being a work day, and it is apparently well known for candle lit meals and night. (This may be the Cafes prime time).
Availability:
  • Very easy to get to if you live central, in walking distance from where I live (Manners Street) so for tourists, or other people traveling around Wellington this may be an easy posy to settle down for a coffee in.
Noise Level:
  • Noise level was average nothing loud, not to quite either. This may have been because there weren't many customers there?
Comments
I enjoyed my time there, I loved the area and how they used plants to their advantage in the sense that it makes the place look amazing, and fresh and stylish. Overall the service let my experience down there. If all you are looking for is a coffee and a sit down, maybe this place isn't the place to be. But if you want a candle lit meal with plants surrounding you. It's the place to go.
